Some very special guests will visit Goodness Grows Nursery in Historic Lexington, Ga. on Saturday, October 26th and Sunday, October 27th. We will host a Living History weekend and share a number of the Legends of Oglethorpe. “In Character” actors will bring to life individuals who have been a part of Oglethorpe County’s rich and fascinating history. These actors will be speaking of their personal worlds long past.
These encounters with our historic visitors will allow small groups of guests to spend an hour enjoying intriguing stories of contributions to our county, state, and nation. There will be special appearances by a famous American explorer and the man who ran against John Quincy Adams for the presidency of the United States in 1823.
One of our speakers founded the first Theological Seminary in Georgia and was pastor of the Lexington Presbyterian Church from 1822 to 1830. The current church structure was built in 1892 and has been placed on the Georgia Trust For Historic Preservation’s list of “Places in Peril” for 2013. A portion of the proceeds from the ticket sales for this event will benefit the preservation of this historic structure in Lexington.
Ticket holders will encounter the individual characters and receive a brochure for a self-guided walking tour of the historic district of Lexington. Options available include a choice of boxed lunches, and a carriage tour of the historic district (provided by Oglethorpe Fresh Historic Lexington Tours - 706-743-3015).
Ticket holders may choose between one morning encounter and two afternoon encounters on Saturday, October 26th or two afternoon encounters on Sunday, October 27th.
